Wake Up Kona Blog Hop - My ode to Kona - SPLASH!!

I would like to take the time to thank our wonderful sponsers and the admirable ladies behind the blog hop who have made it a success. Hats off to you girls.

I love Kona solids. I also love precuts.

I love the fabric so much I enjoy perusing my Kona colour card for just the right solid.

When I saw the request to join the Wake Up to Kona blog hop I could not resist. I had a Kona brights jelly roll. Why not make a dint in my stash. I also raided my Kona stash for the backing and binding.

The best thing about using pre cuts for me is that I love that when you use a pre cut there is not much waste. My quilt top was made with no waste. I was able to use up the entire jelly. Each strip made 2 blocks. I had 82 blocks for this quilt. I used 81 on the top and 1 for the label on the back for something different.

Drum roll please!!!! Introducing SPLASH!!

This quilt top reminds me of splashes of colour. I joked with one of my girlfriends that she would need a pair of sunglasses for this one. My husband agrees with me

The quilt finished at 56" Square. I used a Kona new Brights jelly roll, Kona Peacock for the backing and Kona Coal for the binding.

It was quilted using straight line quilting with Wonderfil 50wt variegated thread.

Whilst you are perusing another Kona inspiration, go and check out some of the ladies posting on this day was well.

End of year finishes

It's never too late. So I ended 2013 with some finished quilts.

Firstly I finished my layer cake lemonade quilt. It's now gone to its new home just prior to the end of the year.

The top.

The back and quilting. I love quilting on my Janome Horizon.

Secondly, I completed a twin set. I made 2 quilts with 1 layer cake and some black solid fabric. All in my stash. I even found backing and binding too. I quilted using wavy lines in variegated blue Aurifil thread. They measured a good lap size just right to top a single bed or to snuggle with.

I'm very proud and my little girl was happy to give the quilts as birthday gifts. The recipients loves their presents too.
